Qatar Health
Doha, Qatar: As the AFC Asian Cup 2023 unfolds,
the Ministry of Public Health, in partnership with Hamad Medical Corporation
(HMC) and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), is dedicated to ensuring the
safety and well-being of attendees by issuing comprehensive health guidelines.
For individuals attending the tournament from
around the globe, access to medical care is readily available at both public
and private healthcare facilities across the country, according to the
Ministry.
In situations of non-life-threatening but
urgent medical conditions, fans are encouraged to seek treatment at
HMC-operated medical clinics situated in all AFC Asian Cup stadiums.
Alternatively, they can visit one of the 10 Urgent Care Units operated by PHCC
or head to a private hospital or medical center in Qatar, as outlined in the
guidelines on the Ministry's website.
In the event of a medical emergency, fans are
reminded to call 999 for immediate assistance.
To support the health infrastructure during the
matches, HMC has established 50 medical clinics strategically placed throughout
the tournament stadiums, operational during the matches. A team of 1,150
skilled medical professionals, including operations officers, field
supervisors, ambulance communications officers, critical care paramedics,
paramedics, doctors, and nurses, will be deployed to ensure the well-being of
attendees.
Emphasizing the importance of sun safety, the
Ministry advises fans to be cautious of prolonged sun exposure. Recognizing the
signs of heat stress, such as severe dizziness and confusion, is crucial.
Attendees are encouraged to wear light-colored clothes, stay hydrated, use
sunscreen, and limit direct sun exposure between 11 am and 4 pm for their
safety.
In the rare occurrence of a dust storm
affecting air quality, fans are urged to take precautions, including limiting
outdoor time, using face masks, and seeking medical advice for persistent
symptoms like shortness of breath.
Food safety is a shared responsibility, and the
Ministry urges fans to follow hygiene practices such as washing hands,
thoroughly cleaning fruits and vegetables, and avoiding uncovered or
contaminated foods. Buffet-goers are advised to use serving utensils to prevent
cross-contamination, and those feeling unwell should contact a healthcare
practitioner.
Addressing road and transportation safety, the
Ministry emphasizes the importance of prioritizing safety when traveling to and
from stadiums in Qatar. Drivers are reminded to obey speed limits, road laws,
avoid phone use while driving, and wear seatbelts. Pedestrians are advised to
wear reflective clothing at night, use designated crossings, and walk in single
file, particularly in poor visibility.
Considering the ongoing risk of respiratory
diseases, especially in large gatherings, preventive measures are paramount.
Attendees of the Asia Cup 2023 are strongly encouraged to wear masks, minimize
contact with symptomatic individuals, practice proper cough/sneeze etiquette,
avoid sharing utensils, wash hands regularly, and ensure vaccination against
influenza and COVID-19. Those feeling unwell or exhibiting symptoms are urged
to avoid gatherings to safeguard the health of all attendees.
